RENO, Nev. (AP) - Four of six agents from the Reno office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have transferred in a rift with federal prosecutors.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the departures have left the northern Nevada region ill equipped to investigate illegal weapon and drug activity.

An investigation by the newspaper found the U.S. Attorney's Office has dismissed four ATF cases involving people who were indicted by federal grand juries on illegal weapons and drug charges, and other cases involving alleged violent criminals were not pursued.

According to the RGJ, Assistant U.S. Attorney Sue Fahami sent a letter to Reno ATF agents in September 2011, saying Reno prosecutors would not accept any cases submitted by the ATF and citing unidentified "issues" that needed to be resolved.
