Deputy on Leave After Lyon County Shooting

STAGECOACH, NV - A Lyon County sheriff's deputy is on paid administrative leave after shooting the suspect in another shooting Thursday night.

Deputies first responded to reports of a woman being shot in the 5000 block of Desert Lane about 10PM. They found the woman in a front yard, shot in the chest. She is being treated at Renown in Reno for what deputies believe is a non-life-threatening wound.

Deputies say when they walked toward the home, they were confronted by a man with a rifle. They say they told him to drop the rifle, but instead he raised it and pointed it at a deputy, who shot the man. That man is now in ICU at Renown in Reno. The deputy isn't hurt.

The Nevada Division of Investigations Major Crimes Unit and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office F.I.S. Team are handling the investigation.

No names have been released.
