SPARKS, NV - Last Chance Joe, the iconic statue on the north side of John Ascuaga's Nugget, has a new home.

New ownership and renovations at the Nugget meant Last Chance Joe needed a new home. The 36-foot statue has been the face of Nugget Avenue since the 1950s. But the new owners of the casino in downtown Sparks are redoing the façade of the building.

The Sparks City Council has approved direction to city staff to work with the Sparks Heritage Museum & Cultural Center to relocate Joe, which the Nugget owners no longer want, but they offered to allow the feature to be removed and relocated as long as it was done quickly and at no expense to the Nugget. The Museum will entirely fund the relocation of the icon to the front of the city-owned building, currently leased to the Museum on 820 Victorian Avenue.

There is no word yet when the move will take place. Anyone interested in donating to help the move can call 355-1144.
