RENO, Nev. -- A driver running from law enforcement is finally in custody after she led officers on a chase, crashed into another vehicle and got away into California.

Washoe County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) Sgt. Banks tells KOLO 8 News Now it started in south Reno when a sheriff's deputy responded to the call of a suspicious vehicle. The deputy spotted the car, a silver coup, on SR 341 (Geiger Grade Rd.) and tried to pull it over but it sped away.

The driver went north on S. Virginia Street and got into an accident. Sgt. Banks says there was only minor damage to the car and no injuries to the couple inside. The coup then got onto the northbound lanes of Interstate 580.

Sgt. Banks says deputies followed the suspect vehicle onto the freeway but when they got to about the Neil exit, traffic became thick, so they called off the chase and put out the vehicle description.

Reports on the police scanner indicated the suspect car continued north through Reno and into the North Valleys. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers eventually caught up to the driver behind a bar near 395 and the Herlong Access road south of Honey Lake. Details about how the driver, a woman, was caught are still coming in, but CHP officials say she is on her way to the county jail in Susanville.
