They say he was not determined to be at fault of the accident but was legally obligated to remain on scene and contact authorities regarding this incident.

SPARKS, NV - Sparks police are looking into the circumstances of an incident at the intersection of northbound Rock Boulevard and Tyler Way about 1AM Saturday.

The incident began when, according to witnesses, a male was lying in the road. As those witnesses stopped their vehicle to check on the welfare of the person, another vehicle ran over him. That driver stopped briefly, then drove off without leaving information about himself. Witnesses got his license plate number.

The pedestrian, a 35-year-old Reno resident whose name hasn't been released, was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center for treatment of what police say are non-life-threatening injuries. Police say it appears that person had been drinking, leading to being found lying on the road.

The driver of the vehicle that hit him was located at his residence one block from the scene and admitted to the incident, stating he was watching the stopped vehicle and observed the subject lying in the roadway at the last minute and did not have time to stop. Police say the driver, so far identified only as a 19-year-old Sparks resident, is cooperating with the investigation. Police say alcohol is not a factor with the driver.

The Sparks Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) was called to the scene to investigate the accident. No charges have been filed toward either party.
