SPARKS, NV - Two men were taken into custody Tuesday morning after police chased the men to the backyard of a Reno home.

Police say Christopher Baumgartner, 23, and Anthony Karnes, 24, fled the K-mart on Oddie Boulevard in a stolen maroon Honda after witnesses reported seeing them steal various items.

Officers located Baumgartner driving the car in the area of Oddie and Silverada with Karnes in the passenger seat. When officers attempted to pull the car over, they say Baumgartner drove off.

A pursuit ensued, but not for very long, as officers felt it was too dangerous to continue.

Baumgartner drove the car into a dead-end street on Fanto court and jumped out of the car along with Karnes.

Both men ran west from the area, jumping fences into the backyard of a house in the 2100 block of Platora in Reno. Officers pursued them on foot and they were quickly taken into custody.

Both men were initially transported to a hospital for claimed injuries. Karnes was soon released and is being questioned by Sparks police; Baumgartner was still at the hospital at the time of this release. Police say he has leg injuries he sustained while jumping fences trying to get away.

The suspects are being charged with Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Possession of Burglary Tools, Felony Eluding, Possession of Controlled Substance, Local Warrants, Petty Larceny and numerous other misdemeanor charges.
