SPARKS, NV - Sparks police have arrested a man they say fired several shots early Tuesday.

Shortly after 2AM, they got calls about shots being fired in the area of Santa Lupe Ave in northeast Sparks.

After talking to people in the area, officers found Keith Alvarez in his backyard. They say he yelled at them, asking who they were. They say when they identified themselves as Sparks police, Alvarez responded by telling the officers to show themselves so he could shoot them. They say they heard the action of a firearm cycle, so they moved for protection. Alvarez is accused of firing one round, then pointing a handgun over the fence in the area from where the officers retreated.

Police say Alvarez went into his house, then was arrested several minutes later when he walked back outside unarmed. Evidence was collected at the scene indicating Alvaraz was reponsible for firing the rounds before police got there.

Alvarez was booked into the Washoe County Detection Facility for Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer. No one was hurt.
