Six Hurt, Gunman Dead in Georgia FedEx Shooting

KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) - A doctor says three victims are in critical condition - and two of them with life-threatening wounds - after they were shot multiple times at a FedEx station outside Atlanta.

In all, six people were wounded in the shootings Tuesday morning, and the suspected gunman was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.

Dr. Michael Nitzken at Wellstar Kennestone hospital told reporters two of the victims had been treated and released while a third remained at the hospital and was stable. He said each of them had wounds consistent with shotgun blasts.

KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) - A witness says a gunman who opened fire at a FedEx center outside Atlanta was armed with an assault rifle, a knife and had bullets strapped across his chest "like Rambo."

FedEx clerk Liza Aiken said she looked up and saw the man before he opened fire inside the package-sorting station Tuesday morning. She was talking to a reporter outside when a woman in a FedEx jacket told her to stop and led her away.

Cobb County police say six people were wounded in the shootings and the gunman was found dead from a gunshot wound that appeared to be self-inflicted.

KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) - Police say a suspect in a shooting at a FedEx center outside Atlanta that wounded six people is dead and appears to have shot themselves.

Cobb County police spokesman Michael Bowman said Tuesday the suspect died from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound. He says police are still sweeping the package-sorting facility north of Atlanta to make sure there are no other threats.

Police have not reported any other deaths from the shootings that occurred before daybreak. Six people were taken to a local hospital, where a spokesman says one was taken into surgery with potentially critical injuries. He says several others were able to walk off ambulances when they arrived.

The suspected shooter's identity was not immediately released.

Cobb County police spokesman Michael Bowman says an active shooter was reported early Tuesday at the FedEx package sorting facility in Kennesaw. He says police have surrounded the building and are working to clear it. He calls the situation "active and fluid."

Marietta police spokesman David Baldwin says six injured patients were taken to nearby Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, one of them with potentially critical injuries. Police didn't' immediately say if anyone has died.

FedEx spokesman Scott Fiedler says the company is cooperating with authorities.
