SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA - The second annual Tahoe Keys Polar Bear Plunge will take place as scheduled on Sunday, February 16, 2014.

The Tahoe Keys is located on the south shore of Lake Tahoe.

This fundraiser at the Tahoe Keys Beach will donate all proceeds to Christmas Cheer, an area food bank for the Lake Tahoe Basin’s needy families, in both California and Nevada.

Since our first plunge last year, we have added a few incentives for brave souls to dip into the cold lake.

First, as we open up at 10 am for Polar Plunge registration, we encourage families to bring their children for a good, old-fashioned snowman building contest with prizes offered.

The snowmen will be judged after the Plunge, which happens at noon.

Second, we ask our plungers to dress in the costume of their choice for the best-dressed plunger and try to be the first plunger to dive head-first into Lake Tahoe. Prizes will go to “The Most Original Snowman Built”, “The Best Snowman Built”, “The First Plunger to Dive In” and “The Best Plunger Costume”.

In addition to the contest fun, we will have MaryLou Whitcomb playing the Ukelele, “JC Bear” our Polar Bear Mascot, the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department to sound the “GO!” siren at noon, and food and hot beverages provided by The Fresh Ketch, Grand Central Pizza, Raleys and The Tahoe Keys POA themselves.

Since the charity Christmas Cheer is run completely by volunteers and has NO regular funding whatsoever, we ask each of our plungers for a donation of $25 each (or more if they wish).

We ask that each spectator bring a box, can or bag of non-perishable food as admission to all the fun and craziness that goes along with plunging into a freezing lake in February.

For those who live close to the Tahoe Keys and can’t make the event, but would like to donate food or cash, the Keys office will be accepting donations Monday through Friday, (Feb. 10 through 14) before the Polar Plunge on Sunday.
