Local Business Helps 'Unleash Your Inner Picasso'

RENO, Nev. -- If you ever wanted to create your own masterpiece, but can't draw more than a stick figure, you're in luck. A new local business is popping up in midtown and it will help you hone your artistic skills. With some friends and, if needed, a little liquid encouragement, you can unleash your inner Picasso.

Mistakes and experience don't matter and expectations can be put to rest at Picasso and Wine.

Alissa and Alanna Woods have strong passions for very different things. Alanna pursued a career in the bar and restaurant industry, while Alissa explored her passion for painting. They both came together to build a business and their dream in Reno.

"We definitely want to bring art to the forefront something that's never touched them before," Alissa said.

With a stroke of a paint brush, people can become social and active, but also feel relaxed.

"I don't think a lot of people realize how therapeutic it is," Alissa said. "You get involved with your painting and your canvas and everything else goes away."

Non-alcoholic beverages are also available. Class prices start at $25 and are offered Tuesdays through Sunday, when family classes are available.

You don't have to be a professional to unleash your inner Picasso. These two-hour classes are designed for children and adults.

"We've actually had quite a few men come in here and they walk in the door and they're like 'oh God, I'm here because my girlfriend's here,' but by the end of the night they have more fun than she did."

There is no right or wrong way to paint. Alanna says people often play outside the lines and put their own flare to their pieces.

"I really enjoy watching the whole transformation take place, from the nervous people that walk through the front door to halfway through the class to actually starting to relax and having a good time," she said.

You could come home, not only with a new piece of artwork, but also a new found respect for the arts.
