RENO, Nev. - On Thursday, PetSmart Inc. awarded $2,500 to the Canine Rehabilitation Center and Sanctuary of Reno, as a charitable gift for their ongoing efforts to assist seniors and veterans in the community.

PetSmart's charitable donation is provided through its PetSmart Gives Back initiative, which focuses on giving back to local communities throughout the nation and organizations that enrich people's lives through the power of pets.

The CRSC is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping dogs recover from trauma such as abuse and neglect. Kristen Ivy, founder of CRSC said many of the dogs they take in become perfect companions for seniors and veterans.

"We're a recovery center for dogs who have been through trauma," Ivy said. "We take in dogs that other shelters and rescues can't place and we provide recovery, socialization, teach them basic life skills and then when they're ready we place them into their forever homes."

CRCS recently moved their organization to the 555 US Highway location. Ivy said the organization is still remodeling the new building and the donation will go a long way toward helping them reach their goals.
