SPARKS, NV - A pedestrian has died after trying to cross the street Wednesday night in Sparks.

The accident happened at the intersection of McCarran and Nichols about 7PM.

Lt. Carl Johnson with the Nevada Highway Patrol says the 38-year-old Sparks man, whose name hasn't been released, was trying to beat the crosswalk timer while running from the area of Sierra Sid's Casino to the Burger King across the street.

Johnson says it appears the light changed to green and a vehicle proceeded southbound on McCarran, striking the pedestrian somewhere in or near the crosswalk.

Johnson says it's likely that the light turned green and the driver did not see the pedestrian until it was too late.

McCarran was closed until just before 10:00 Wednesday night as officials investigated the accident.
