RENO, NV - The Nevada Highway Patrol has released more information about a pedestrian who was killed after being struck by multiple vehicles the evening of Sunday, August 10, 2014.
Police say Russell Roberts, 36, was walking in the southbound travel lane of US 395 near Spring Valley Drive in Douglas County when he was struck by a 2013 Toyota pickup driven by Ian C. Snyder, 29.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates Roberts of Reno was in the southbound travel lane of US 395 when he was struck by a 2013 Toyota pickup driven by Snyder of Bishop, CA, who was traveling southbound.
After being struck by the pickup, police say Roberts came to rest in the northbound travel lane and was struck by two Douglas County patrol vehicles. The first patrol vehicle was driven by Deputy Justin Williams and the second by Deputy Samantha Torres, who were both on duty and traveling northbound en route to a service call. Both deputies were unaware that an accident involving a pedestrian had taken place.
All three vehicles stopped in an attempt to render aid to Mr. Roberts and the Sheriff’s deputies secured the scene and contacted emergency medical personnel to respond. Mr. Roberts was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police say all drivers involved in the accident are cooperating with law enforcement during this investigation. They do not suspect that alcohol or drugs were a factor at this time. The accident is still under investigation.
