Former Wolf Pack tight end Zach Sudfeld was released by the New England Patriots on Thursday.
Sudfeld signed with the team as a free agent after going undrafted out of Nevada this year. He played well enough in the preseason to earn a spot on their 53-man opening roster.
His spot became expendable with the signing of Austin Collie, and the expected returns of both Danny Amendola and Rob Gronkowski.
If he clears waivers, he would likely be signed to their practice squad.
Sudfeld was an All-Conference selection his senior year at Nevada, catching 45 passes for 598 yards and eight touchdowns.
