CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Nevada legislators have given an initial OK to a bill requiring some chain restaurants to post nutritional information about their menu items.

AB126 won approval Wednesday from the Assembly Health and Human Services committee and now heads to the full Assembly for a vote. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports four Republicans on the panel opposed it.

The measure was watered down from when it was first introduced by Las Vegas Democratic Assemblywoman Lucy Flores.

An amendment requires restaurants with 15 or more locations in Nevada to post calorie information on-site, up from 10 in the initial bill. Another change makes penalties administrative, rather than criminal.

Opponents of the bill testified in an earlier hearing that federal officials are already developing similar regulations, and they didn't want to pre-empt those rules.
