CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A woman ousted from her job as Carson City Animal Services manager amid public outrage over a dog's euthanasia is now suing the city.
The Nevada Appeal reports Gail Radke's lawsuit says city leaders defamed her in the case.
Animal services took heat after the death of a dog named Rollie that was picked up by animal control July 25.
Owner Jeraldine Archuleta says she tried to retrieve the dog the next day, but was told she'd have to pay $100 within 72 hours. The shelter euthanized the dog when she didn't pay in time.
Deputy City Manager Marena Works told reporters the city was within its legal rights to kill the dog, but should have waited longer.
City leaders didn't immediately respond to requests for comment Friday.
