Both Escaped Inmates Arrested, Back in Jail

UPDATE: SPARKS,NV-- Sparks Lt. Pete Krall confirms to KOLO 8 News Now that Corey Gomez was arrested early Saturday morning at an apartment complex in Sparks following a two-hour standoff.

According to Krall, after the Regional Gang Unit arrested the first escapee, Dustin Cottiero, they were led to an apartment complex located in the 2500 block of Sunny Slope Drive to followup on a tip.

Officers asked a resident if anybody was inside the unit. That resident said no. However, officers noticed a male subject in the back of the residence who they believed it was Gomez.

A standoff ensued, 10:00 Friday night, with Gomez peacefully surrendering around 12:30, according to Krall.

The investigation continues as to why the resident of the apartment unit lied.

The Department of Corrections is trying to figure out if other people were involved in helping the two men hide while on the run.

UPDATE: RENO, NV--The Nevada Department of Corrections says the second inmate who escaped earlier this week has been apprehended. Further details on Corey Gomez's arrest are pending.


RENO, NV--Reno police say they have arrested one of the inmates who walked away from a work site Wednesday afternoon.

Police arrested Dustin Cottiero around 1:00 Friday afternoon on East 4th Street at Morrill Ave, near Diamonds Casino.

Lt. Amy Newman tells KOLO 8 News Now the second escapee, Corey Gomez, remains on the run.

Cottiero had been committed from Washoe County and incarcerated with NDOC since September 11, 2013. He was serving 12 to
36 months for attempted burglary.

Gomez was committed from Clark County and had been incarcerated with NDOC since July 1, 2013. He was serving 36 to 96 months for burglary and resisting a Public Officer with a weapon.

Both inmates were assigned to the Stewart Conservation Camp in Carson City.
