One Man Killed During Avalanche at Donner Ski Ranch

TRUCKEE, CA - One man was killed during an avalanche at Donner Ski Ranch. On Monday morning, a group of skiers and snowboarders were in an area where a moderate sized avalanche hit.

According to police, someone noticed that his friend was missing and told authorities that he may have gotten caught up in an avalanche. The Nevada County Sheriff's Office were called to the scene and began looking for a while male in his 50s. Search & Rescue Teams from the Placer County Sheriff's Office and Ski Patrols from both Donner Ski Ranch & Sugar Bowl Resort were called in to help.

At 1:30pm, a Sugar Bowl Ski Patrol canine found the body of the missing male. He was found 2-3 feet under the snow. The identity of the man won't be released until his family is notified. Only one person was reported missing and no other injuries were reported.
