FERNLEY, NV - Two people were killed in accidents involving Union Pacific trains Tuesday morning, a UP spokesman confirms.

The first incident was at 12:11AM near Galletti and Kietzke in Sparks. The train was headed from Chicago to Lathrop, California.

Sparks police say their investigation indicates the man was sitting on the tracks when he was struck by the train, but they don't know why. Police say his name won't be released until his family is notified.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Sparks police detectives at 353-2225.

In the second incident, a different train headed from Oakland to Chicago hit a pedestrian near Logan Lane in Fernley at 6:14AM. That name also has not been released.

Both incidents are under investigation, with UP counselors working with both train crews.
