Just like that winter weather has arrived in the Tahoe region and already the snow is piling up.
Beginning overnight Sierra resorts began using social media to get out the word that fall weather has given away to winter, with several inches of snow being reported at Heavenly, Kirkwood and Northstar by daybreak.
As the snow continued to fall, more impressive totals were starting to emerge including 18 inches at Boreal by Noon.
That is enough for the Donner Summit resort to consider cranking up the lifts as early as Friday, October 26th.
Boreal's Jon Slaughter says they will turn on the snow guns tonight and if the weather cooperates a weekend opening is a real possibility, although a final decision won't be made until later this week.
Boreal traditionally aims for a Halloween opening, but of course weather conditions will determine when the lifts actually start.
While not planning to open this weekend, other Sierra resorts are watching the snow closely and will be turning their snow guns on in an effort to take full advantage of the changing conditions.
All across the Tahoe region getting open by the Thanksgiving weekend is a goal, and fingers are crossed that this early blast of snow means a long winter ahead.
