Nugget Shooting Trial Continues After Long Weekend

RENO, NV - Members of the Vagos motorcycle club testified Monday morning at the trial of a suspect in the Street Vibrations shooting that happened in 2011 at John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks. Court had been out of session since Thursday.

Vago member Ernesto Gonzalez is standing trial for the murder of Jeffrey Pettigrew, the president of the San Jose Hells Angels, in town for the annual motorcycle festival.

Fellow Vago and best friend of Gonzalez Richard Nickerson testified he traveled to Reno with Gonzalez that year for the event. He denies the Vagos in San Jose had a rivalry with the Hells Angels, even saying they coexisted in California.

He says the confrontation began with one Vago member from Los Angeles Nickerson described as a "drunken fool." Nickerson says he never knew Gonzalez had a gun with him the night of the shooting, and he testified when he and Gonzalez went to southern California after the shooting, Gonzalez never talked about a gun or shooting anyone. Nickerson also denied the prosecution's claims that there was a plan to kill Pettigrew on September 23, 2011.

Trial in Washoe District Court is expected to last until at least the end of this week. Two other suspects entered plea deals to avoid trial.
