RENO, Nev— Make sure to hide your valuables if you are heading to the gym.

With the start of the New Year, the Reno Police Department has seen an increase in vehicle burglaries occurring at local fitness centers and health club this month. Police say most of the burglaries occur between 3am and 8am.

They say suspects target vehicles that have valuables in plain sight such as wallets and purses, often smashing windows to steal items and causing additional damage to the victim’s vehicles in the process.

Residents are encouraged to take all valuables with them whenever possible, utilize fitness center locker rooms, or leave the items at home. If something must be kept in your vehicle, store all valuables out of sight, lock your vehicle, park in well lit areas and be observant of your surroundings. Report all suspicious activity to the center as well as local law enforcement.

Anyone having information relating to this crime trend or the suspect(s) should contact the Reno Police Department at 334-2115, Secret Witness at 322-4900,, or text the tip to 847411 (TIP 411) keyword - SW
