CARSON CITY, NV - The no-texting or talking on a cellphone while driving does not actually go into effect until Januray 1, 2012 but that won't stop the law from pulling drivers over to give them a warning.

Beginning October 1, local law enforcement can pull drivers over if they are caught texting or talking on their cellphones while driving.

Senate Bill 140, which was passed this year during the 2011 Legislative Session and signed by Governor Brian Sandoval, prohibits the use of a cellular phone or other handheld wireless communications device while operating a motor vehicle in certain circumstances.

This is a primary law which means that officers do not need to observe a separate violation before initiating a traffic enforcement stop. But, no tickets will be issued should you get caught breaking the law until January 1.
