FORESTHILL, Calif. (AP) - Fire officials say no homes were lost overnight as fire crews continue to battle a wildfire burning in California's Gold Country.
About 300 people living near the Placer County community of Colfax remain out of their homes as the so-called Robbers Fire burns in an area of steep canyons and thick forests.
CalFire spokesman Brice Bennett says though the fire grew in size overnight, improved weather conditions allowed firefighters make a more aggressive stand against the blaze.
The fire has burned a little more than two square miles, or about 1,400 acres. It is 20% contained.
Meanwhile, a fire burning to the northwest is 50 percent contained after consuming about 40 square miles of the Mendocino National Forest.
Officials say the Mill Fire has destroyed five outbuildings and three people have been hurt. Fire crews hope to be able to have that fire contained by Friday.
