MINDEN, Nev. (AP) - A Smith Valley teenager has been fined $697 and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service for a traffic accident that killed a man in Douglas County.

The Nevada Appeal reports East Fork Judge Tom Perkins suspended a 90-day sentence for 19-year-old Juvenal Pineda.

The maximum penalty was six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Pineda pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter in the July 2011 death of 41-year-old Jeffrey Gray of Mound House.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says Pineda was making a left turn from Airport Road onto U.S. Highway 395 and pulled in front of Gray's vehicle.

According to his attorney, Pineda was valedictorian of his Smith Valley High School class and was a pre-med student at the University of San Francisco on scholarship.
