LAS VEGAS (AP) - Makers of the ACT test say Nevada's Class of 2014 scored higher than the national average in English, reading and math, although only about one-third of graduates took the exam.

A report released this week showed Nevada test-takers earned an average composite score of 21.2 on a 36-point scale that combines scores for English, reading, math and science subtests.

That's slightly above the national average composite score of 21.

The report classified 26 percent of Nevada test-takers as "college ready" in all four subjects. That's the same as the national average.

ACT test organizers said about 36 percent of Nevada graduates were tested in 2014. The rate is up 16 percent from five years ago, but still far behind other states that test nearly all graduates.
