CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - More Nevadans registered as nonpartisan voters in September than Republicans and Democrats combined.
Figures released Tuesday by the secretary of state's office show 1,140 people registered last month. Of that total, 666 registered as nonpartisan.
Democrats picked up 45 registrations, while 159 registered as Republican. The rest filed as members of the Independent American or other minor political parties.
Statewide, Democrats outnumber Republicans by 96,591.
Nonpartisans account for more than 17 percent of Nevada's active voters. Voters identifying with the Democratic Party make up 42 percent of the total, with Republicans at 34 percent.
