CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Nevada agencies have updated a drought
response plan that sets guidelines for coordination among government entities to monitor and react to drought conditions.
The plan hasn't been updated since 2003.
Acting State Climatologist Kate Berry says the revised plan outlines a system to monitor the magnitude, severity and extent of drought within the state on a county-by-county basis.
It sets up three stages of conditions - a drought watch, drought alert and drought emergency - and different responses to be considered when such designations are made.
Under the plan, a drought emergency can be declared by the governor following a recommendation by the Drought Response Committee.
The updated plan comes on the heels of one of the driest winters
in recent Nevada history.
