CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Taxable sales in Nevada jumped 10.2
percent in February over the same month last year, with many
sectors reporting double-digit increases.
The report released Thursday by the Nevada Department of
Taxation says merchants sold $3.2 billion in taxable goods during
the month, on which the state collected $259 million in gross
revenue.
Sales in Clark County rose 11.1 percent, while Washoe County saw
a 10.7 percent increase.
Sales of vehicles and parts jumped nearly 23 percent compared
with February 2011, and durable goods were up18 percent.
Bar and restaurant sales shot up nearly 12 percent, and
accommodation rose nearly 26 percent. Both are key indicators on
the health of Nevada's tourism economy.
February marks the 20th straight month of increased sales since
the recession.
