CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A state panel has approved a $125,000 settlement with a former Nevada Division of Forestry dispatcher who was fired soon after telling her bosses she was pregnant.
The Board of Examiners on Tuesday approved the payment with Tawnya Meyer after state lawyers said the damages could be much higher if the case went to court.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the U.S. Department of Justice filed a discrimination lawsuit against the agency in May.
Meyer worked as a dispatcher in Elko and was fired in March 2007 after she told her supervisors she would need to take maternity leave that summer, the height of the wildfire season. She was told of her dismissal while on doctor-ordered leave.
