CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Nevadans tired of pinching pennies in the recession may be poised to spend more this holiday season.
The Retail Association of Nevada predicts holiday spending in the state will increase 6.8 percent this year over last.
The association's forecast is more optimistic than national projections, which forecast more modest growth of around 4 percent.
Retail Association of Nevada President Mary Lau says economic uncertainty may take a back seat this year to the urge to indulge with family and friends. She says recession fatigue - even political ad fatigue from the long election cycle - may push consumers to spend a little more this holiday season.
The organization estimates holiday spending in Nevada this year will total $1.6 billion.
