RENO, NV - The Nevada Humane Society will take part in an awareness campaign that honors animals around the world.

On Thursday, September 26, 2013, the Nevada Humane Society will participate in "Remember Me Thursday" by lighting a flameless candle and displaying it in the shelter throughout the day, according to an official at the Nevada Humane Society.

Remember Me Thursday is an event in which candles are lit across the world to honor the millions of pets who lost their lives in shelters. The campaign also seeks to spread awareness for pets who are still waiting to be adopted, according to an official at the Nevada Humane Society.

Officials with the Nevada Humane Society say Remember Me Thursday is a global awareness campaign that asks organizations and people to dedicate the last Thursday of September to remember homeless pets that are no longer with us.
