LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada is getting nearly $4 million in federal grants to bolster low-performing schools.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced Thursday that the U.S. Department of Education approved a $3.7 million School Improvement Grant for the state.

The money will doled out to local agencies in competitive subgrants.

Reid called the grant terrific news for Nevada, and said the money is vital as the state's school districts experience budget shortfalls.
