Reno, Nevada – October 24, the 3rd Annual Nevada Day Governor’s Banquet was held at the Grand Sierra Resort and not only did it launch the year-long NV150 celebration to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Nevada’s statehood; it benefited The Children’s Cabinet of Nevada.

More than 560 people were in attendance that night, including Governor Brian Sandoval, First Lady Kathleen Sandoval (who spoke on behalf of the Children’s Cabinet), and their daughter Marisa.

Other notable attendees at the banquet included members of The Carson City Downtown Business Association, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, Hot August Nights, The Reno Rodeo, The City of Sparks, Miss Nevada Organization, UNR President & Staff, The American Legion, KTVN, KOLO, KRNV TV, The Reno Navy League, Nevada Commission on Tourism & Cultural Affairs, Lotus Radio, and the NV 150 Commission.

A special part of the evening was also dedicated to honoring the late Gov. Kenny Guinn and Senator Bill Raggio. Dema Guinn and her family as well as Dale Raggio were there and received a standing ovation from the crowd after the tribute.

In attendance that night was Grand Sierra Resort owner, Alex Meruelo, whose overwhelming gesture of generosity to match all revenues generated by the live auction, amounted to a sole donation of $18,200!

As well, Lance Gilman of the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center and Mustang Ranch, whose straight donations to the event and personal live auction purchases, contributed over $5000 alone! Storey County Manager, Pat Whitten, presented a check of $1000 as well on behalf of Storey County.

In all, a net of just over $27,000 was raised that evening from silent and live auctions as well as straight donations given that evening. Portions of the evening’s proceeds will benefit The Children’s Cabinet who also was in attendance that night.
