Statement from Governor Sandoval:

“I was saddened this morning to learn of the passing of Peggy Pierce.  A longtime advocate for the people of Nevada, I admired Peggy’s tenacity and commitment to those she represented and she will be missed.  Kathleen and I extend our thoughts and prayers to Peggy’s family and friends.”

Statement from Rep. Mark Amodei (R-NV2):

“I am saddened to hear of Peggy’s passing. There was very little on which we agreed, but I respected and enjoyed her commitment to public service. And I will always smile when I recall our service together on the TRPA committee.”

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada Democratic Assemblywoman Peggy Pierce has died after a battle with cancer.

Pierce's longtime boyfriend Jon Sasser said she passed away about 4:15 a.m. Thursday under hospice care. She was 59.

Pierce was born in Milton, Massachusetts and represented her Las Vegas Assembly district from 2003 to the present.

Sasser says she was fighting her third bout of breast cancer in the past 10 years, and her condition had rapidly declined in the past week.

Sasser says she'll be remembered as a fierce advocate for workers' rights and the environment. He called her champion of the people who don't otherwise have a voice.
