RENO, NV - You can contribute to your local food bank by participating in the nationwide 'Stamp Out Hunger' food drive.

On Saturday, May 10, 2014, U.S. Postal Service employees and volunteers throughout Nevada will participate in the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, according to Jocelyn Lantrip with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

She says, last year, Nevadans gave more than 604,000 pounds of food to benefit local food banks.

In total, Americans donated more than 74 million pounds of food in 2013. She says this fed an estimated 30 million people.

Lantrip says over the course of 21 years, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive collected more than 1 billion pounds of food.

To participate in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, simply leave a bag containing non-perishable, non-expired food by your mailbox on Saturday, May 10, 2014. She says postal carriers will do the rest.
