FALLON, NV - The Nevada Highway Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating a crash involving a motorcyclist who died around 9PM Friday, August 1, 2014, in Fallon.

The NHP reports shortly before the collision happened, a deputy with the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office observed the rider of a black 2004 Honda commit a traffic violation on Harrigan Road and was preparing to make a stop. The motorcyclist ignored the emergency lights and siren of the marked patrol vehicle and sped away. The deputy lost sight of the bike but believed the rider may have turned right onto New River Parkway, which has no outlet, and parked his patrol vehicle near that intersection.

A short time later, the NHP says the motorcyclist doubled back to the intersection, saw the patrol vehicle, and sped away once more. The rider, now traveling east again on New River Parkway, tried to make a right turn while braking but hit a roadside curb before hitting a tree. 23-year-old Gregory L. Vasquez of Fernley was thrown from the bike. Vasquez was unresponsive at the scene and transported to Banner Churchill Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Trooper Doug Farris is investigating this crash. Witnesses or anyone with additional information about this event are encouraged to contact him at (775) 689-4614 or regarding case number NHP-140800112.
