SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - A criminal charge has been filed against the 56-year-old Sparks man who accidentally shot himself in the buttocks inside a movie theater earlier this month.
Police say Fernando Santana Eagleheart had a legal permit to carry the concealed weapon when he dropped it and it went off at the downtown Sparks theater on Aug. 14
But a criminal complaint filed last week in Sparks Municipal Court charges him with discharge of a firearm on a public street or "place of public resort." The misdemeanor offense is punishable by up to six months in jail, a $1,000 fine or both.
Police say that Eagleheart apologized to the crowd and left the theater where about 30 people had been watching "The Bourne Legacy." No one else was hurt.
