RENO, Nev. -- A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) spokesman confirms to KOLO 8 News Now that the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the FAA are investigating the crash of a twin-engine aircraft.

Ian Gregor of the FAA says the plane was on its way from Mesa, Arizona to the Portland-Troutdale Airport in Oregon. It crashed about 19 miles southeast of Ely, Nevada.

The investigation is in its early stages so the circumstances surrounding the crash are not yet known. Gregor says investigators believe two people were on board the plane when it crashed. According to early reports, local officials reached the crash site today and found victims but were unable to identify exactly how many.

The NTSB is leading the investigation into the crash with assistance from FAA.
