The Department of Defense and Naval Air Station Fallon are looking to off load 48 planes totaling 600,000 pounds of tactical and wrecked tactical aircraft.
Used by the Navy for bombing practice, the majority of the aircraft have been destroyed by bombs and are located at a neighboring bombing range; the remainder are located at NAS Fallon.
No longer needed by the Navy, the scrap material from the aircraft, consisting of aluminum and other mixed metals, is going up for public auction via Government Liquidation (www.GovLiquidation.com), the exclusive sales channel for the Department of Defense’s surplus and scrap assets.
Starting bid for the 600,000 pounds is $150.
All hazardous and classified material has been removed from the aircraft however the buyer is responsible to further shred and destroy them before removing the material from the base. This is to prevent reuse, recognition or reconstruction of aircraft.
