UPDATE 6pm:
The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) dispatch confirms the Mt. Rose highway has re-opened after being closed all afternoon. Earlier today, NHP Sgt. Eddie Bowers reported an avalanche shut down the pass shortly after noon.

-------------------------
RENO, Nev. -- The Mount Rose Highway (State Route 431) is closed from Apollo Way in Incline Village all the way to Douglas Fir Dr. in Galena.

A Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) sergeant confirms the road closed due to "an over-abundance of snow." He says the large amount of snow was likely because of an avalanche. Spin-outs, snow removal operations and avalanche-prevention operations were on-going before the closure.

No word on when the Mt. Rose highway will re-open.
