Morning Ice Causes Several Accidents, One Fatality

RENO, Nev. -- Icy roads contributed to several accidents across northern Nevada overnight and into the morning. The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) reports they had a busy night and the work continued into the morning.

The most significant crash happened on I-80 near Mile Marker 50, that is just east of Fernley. An NHP official says a Ford Expedition rolled over and one of the five people inside was thrown from the vehicle. That person died at the scene. One other person was flown to Reno by helicopter. According to scanner traffic, Care Flight landed on the freeway to pick up the patient. The three other people in the Expedition were taken to the hospital with less serious injuries.

Another crash happened near Mile Marker 46. No one was injured in that incident. And Washoe County Sheriff's officials report another non-injury accident on the northern end of Eastlake Blvd.
