SPARKS, NV - A man on a motorcycle is badly injured after being hit by a van in Sparks Tuesday evening.
KOLO 8 News Now's Colin Lygren saw the accident happen. He says around 7:20pm, the motorcycle was heading south on Rock Boulevard when a white van exited Rock Park. The motorcyclist swerved to avoid hitting the van, but was broadsided and sent sliding about 30 feet.
Police say the driver of the van was at fault. "She is being detained right now pending our investigation into the DUI," said Lt. Eric Thomas of the Sparks Police Department.
Police say 28-year-old Sarah Hayden was at the wheel of the van. She reportedly smelled of alcohol, and further signs of intoxication were observed during a field sobriety test.
The 44-year-old motorcyclist was wearing a helmet. He suffered a broken leg and a series of cuts and abrasions. He was taken to Renown Medical Center.
Northbound Rock Boulevard was briefly closed north of Mill while police investigated.
