RENO, NV - These are ceremonies and memorials around Reno, Sparks and Carson City for Memorial Day, May 26th, 2014.

Powning Veterans' Memorial Park in Reno:

Powning Veterans' Memorial Park, in downtown Reno at 150 S. Virginia Street, has a memorial to Nevada service men and women who have died serving our country in the wars in Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Iraq - The War on Terror. The park also features a statue of General Jesse Reno, who died in Civil War action and for whom Reno was named.


James D. Hoff Peace Officers' Memorial:

This memorial is located in a quiet corner of Idlewild Park in Reno. It honors fallen peace officers who died in the line of duty. Parking is nearby if you enter the park on Cowan Drive from Idlewild Drive.


Sparks Memorial Park:

Memorial Park is at C St. and Pyramid Way. This park has memorials honoring Sparks residents who died defending our country. There is also a bronze statue in remembrance of fallen firefighters and a statue honoring police officers serving the community of Sparks.


143rd Annual Memorial Day Veterans' Ceremony at Mountain View Cemetery in Reno:

The ceremony will be from 11 a.m. to noon on Memorial Day. The cemetery is located at 435 Stoker Avenue in Reno. Call (775) 329-9231 for more information. Guests invited to honor our veterans include the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corp, Nevada State Honor Guard, and the Silver Dollar Chorus.


Northern Nevada Veterans' Memorial Cemetery:

The Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery is in Fernley, about 30 miles east of Reno on I-80. To reach the cemetery from Reno, take I-80 east to exit 48. Turn right and follow the signs to the cemetery. Memorial kicks off at 11AM.


Salvation Army Salute:

The Salvation Army will host a Memorial Day Observance and Fellowship Picnic Memorial Day, Monday, May 26th. It will begin with a patriotic observance, raising the flag in salute to our country and veterans at noon in the courtyard of The Salvation Army, located at 1931 Sutro Street in Reno. Following this ceremony, a local veteran will give an inspirational message and all veterans will be recognized. A free picnic lunch will be served.

In addition to the picnic lunch, there will be children's activity booths and games hosted by the The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary of Reno-Sparks.


Memorial Day Service at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City:

The service, in the veterans' section, will be at 1 p.m. on Memorial Day. The cemetery is located at 1044 Beverly Drive, Carson City, Nevada 89706. Call (775) 887-2111 for more information.
