RENO, Nev. -- Reno Mayor Bob Cashell wants you to go the extra mile today. It's part of an event being held by more than 350 cities, including Reno.
This national event is sponsored by "Extra Mile America", with a goal to remind people that groups and individuals have the ability to change their willingness to do more, give more and go the extra mile.
"We all talk about wanting change, happiness, more opportunity. However, relying on others to make that happen is only wishing for life to get better," says Extra Mile America founder Shawn Anderson. "Life can be hard…no doubt. But the 'go the extra mile' message gives people an alternative to just throwing their arms in the air and saying 'I give up!"
This initiative started in 2009 with just 23 cities on board. The foundation says it's proud that mayors across the country are using Extra Mile Day to recognize those in their communities who are putting forth outstanding effort in volunteerism and service.
