Mayor Cashell Presents Mother Theresa Award to St. Vincent's Manager

RENO, Nev. -- People enjoyed a special ceremony at the St. Vincent's dining room in downtown Reno Saturday.

Mayor Bob Cashell presented dining room manager Ray Trevino with the "Mother Theresa Award."

Travino has managed the dining room for 22 years and helps feed hundreds of people every day.

"I do it for the love of people and to help in my community," Trevino said. "The best part of this is making sure people get a hot meal and we give them the best we have from the generous people in the community."

The wooden plaque is inscribed with the words of Mother Theresa: "Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier." There's also an "X" on the plaque to commemorate a memory from Trevino's childhood in Southern Texas.

"I always used to say that my mother must have had an "X" above her doorway, because even when our refrigerator was empty she always found a way to offer people something to eat. Our house was a friendly place, and that's what I've always offered at St. Vincent's," Trevino said.
