Mayberry Roundabout Scrapped By RTC

RENO, NV - Back in May, the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County presented a roundabout concept in the reconstruction of Mayberry Drive.

The concept was proposed for the intersection of Hunter Lake Drive and Mayberry Drive, but never advanced to the design phase.

In a meeting on July 25, 2014 the RTC decided to move forward with the reconstruction of Mayberry Drive without the inclusion of a roundabout

The existing traffic signal utilizes an old method of detecting vehicles, and was programmed to be updated. Installation of a new, modern traffic signal would improve reliability and enhance the intersection.

While analysis shows a roundabout would function well at Mayberry Drive and Hunter Lake Drive, RTC recognizes the need to provide the community with more information on the benefits of roundabouts.

Should a roundabout be envisioned in the future, it would require a new contract that would go through a review process. There would also be significant opportunity for the public to provide input.
