Man Arrested for Revenge Porn

CARSON CITY, NV - The trend of posting an ex's naked pictures online has grown so much, it has a name: revenge porn.

"The intention is not fun or innocence, it is actually vengeance and vengeance is what is carrying that emotion to do something that is just absolutely wrong," said Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong. He is familiar with "Revenge porn" because his office just got done investigating a case.

"I don't think it is the first case that we have seen and prosecuted; we have different levels of these types of activities that go on," said Furlong.

28-year-old Ivan Botello was arrested Friday for arranging to have revenge porn posted online. That in itself is not illegal, but the girl pictured was 16.

"She is a minor, and the pictures were very very provocative and he did take the pictures and he did possess them," said Furlong.

Across the nation, there is a push to criminalize posting dirty pictures of an ex, no matter how old the victim. Sites like "End Revenge Porn" are grass roots efforts that are trying to gather signatures and gain legislators' attention.

Over in California, a bill in the :egislature would make it a misdemeanor to take and post illicit pictures of exes as a way of getting back at them. Punishment could include a year in jail and a two-thousand-dollar fine.

But here in Nevada, there's currently no effort underway to prevent the perverted posts.

"We would struggle with the current laws on the books. Because we have just not gone that far in our statutes," said Furlong

With the next Legislative session a year and a half away, it's possible this could be the next big issue if it captures the Legislature's attention.
