FERNLEY, NV - One man was arrested after a crash involving a stolen truck and a State Farm insurance building in Fernley.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office says shortly before 1PM Tuesday, 51-year-old Michael Shenkle was seen driving westbound on Main Street when he hit a billboard on the side of the road, crashed through a fence and then into the back side of the State Farm Insurance building. He then reportedly fled on foot before deputies arrived.
While deputies were talking to witnesses, Shenkle was seen walking back to the crash scene. Deputies tried to talk with him, but they say he tried to punch a deputy. After a brief struggle, Shenkle was taken into custody.
Investigators say the truck was stolen and when the registered truck owner arrived on scene he told deputies his home was also broken into.
Shenkle was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, destruction of property, hit and run, assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, and reckless driving. His bail is set at $25,500.
The crash caused substantial damage to the State Farm Building estimated to be “tens of thousands of dollars.”
