SPARKS, NEV – Sparks police have arrested a man after allegedly chasing several people with a knife. According to police, officers got a call about a man chasing a female with a knife at the Lincoln Arms Apartments at 3:41pm Wednesday.
When officers arrived, they say Daniel Adrian Gonzalez was holding the knife and was holding the blade toward his head. Officers say they asked him to put the knife down several times, and ultimately were forced to use a taser. REMSA and Sparks fire treated him at the scene and he was then taken to Northern Nevada Medical. Once he was released from the hospital, he was booked at the Washoe County Jail.
According to a press release, Gonzalez was at the Lincoln Arms Apartments visiting a friend when he became agitated and violent. Gonzalez picked up a knife and chased his friend out of the apartment. The friend outran Gonzalez and went back into his apartment. Gonzalez then saw a female walking a dog and began to chase her as well. There were numerous witnesses who saw this and they called the police. As Gonzalez was chasing the female, one of the witnesses came to the female's aid and Gonzalez stopped chasing her. Gonzalez then went into the breezeway of an apartment building, where officers encountered him.
Drugs do not appear to be a factor for his behavior at this time, according to police, who believe Gonzalez is suffering from a mental episode and will be receiving further treatment for that.
Gonzalez was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and other charges.
